The Village of Northfield FEMA Mapping Website Instructions

The Village of Northfield has prepared a mapping application to assist property owners in determining whether particular properties lie within mapped Special Flood Hazard Areas as determined by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

With this application, users can locate an area of interest, and view and print maps of the approximate Special Flood Hazard Areas in the Village.

Proposed Map Revisions

FEMA and the Illinois Department of natural Resources are currently in the process of revising the flood maps for Cook County, with the revised maps expected to become effective in early 2008. Until the revised mapping becomes effective, the mapping application will include an option to print the preliminary map as well in order to illustrate the changes at particular locations. The on-screen map view will always show the current, effective mapping.

Additional information on the map revisions is available at http://dnr.state.il.us/Flood/ .

Navigating the Map

Use the Zoom and Pan tool buttons on the left of the screen to move around the map. To locate an address, click on the “Search Options” pulldown at the top right of the screen and select “By Site Address”. An Address pulldown will appear. Select the desired address from the pulldown or begin typing the address to jump down the list. Click an address on the list to zoom to that location.

To Save or Print a Map

Click the Print button near the bottom left of the map to bring up the Print Dialogue window. You must have any popup blockers disabled to open the Print Dialogue window. Choose the desired map from the pulldown menu under the heading “Map Generator:” and click on the Create Map button.

The application will return a link to an Adobe *.pdf file with the map image. The *.pdf file may be saved or printed to a paper copy.

Disclaimer:

The map images and data displayed through this application were prepared by agencies other than the Village of Northfield and are provided for general informational purposes only. A topographic survey is required to determine existing floodplain boundaries. Property owners are encouraged to consult with an engineer familiar with floodplain issues and regulations to assess the impacts of the map revisions.
